SYSTEMS, INC. SIGNS $14.7M NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY(NRL) CONTRACT
Columbia, MD, August 21, 1998 -- Interface and Control Systems, Inc. (ICS) announced today that they have signed Research, Engineering Design and Development Support contract with the Naval Research Laboratory. ICS will play a key role in the support of 3 major programs at the Lab: initial support for the software and test of the Army Airborne Command and Control System (A2C2S) and it's Joint Combat Information Terminal (JCIT) in the tactical theater, and for Command and Telemetry software systems for the Navy EarthMap Observer (NEMO) and the Interim Control Module (ICM) satellites. ICS will integrate its COTS-based control System (SCL) on all three programs. Interface & Control Systems will be using its product Spacecraft Command Language (SCL) as the core element of the AACCS JCIT testset. The SCL system is used for automated testing of the JCIT hardware. The SCL system is used to transmit and decode packets on the Firewire (IEEE-1394) bus used as the communications backplane for the JCIT Digital Radio. On the NEMO and ICM satellite programs, ICS is providing more traditional role by supplying the real-time command and control system for the Spacecraft Controller for ICM, and the Payload controller for NEMO. The ICM program is a man-rated mission which is the booster used to keep the International Space Station aloft. The ICM, designed to dock with and mate to the ISS, will support the operations of the ISS until such time as the permanent Control Module is available. The NEMO spacecraft, a hyper-spectral mapping, low-earth orbiting satellite, is being designed and developed by the NRL with national and international support. ICS supports the design, development, integration, test and deployment of the command and telemetry system of the NEMO spacecraft One each of these programs, ICS is deploying the SCL COTS product. SCL is a rule-based Expert System developed by ICS which is used to provide real-time command, control and monitoring for Satellite Control Centers, Testsets, and on-board satellite control systems. ICS Program Manager Jay Offutt said "This marks a significant milestone for our company. We have worked with the NRL for 10 years now, and a direct contract allows us to be more productive and deliver the 1st class service that our customers expect. With this contract worth $14.7M over 5 years, NRL has demonstrated their confidence in the SCL product and the ICS team" Interface and Control Systems has offices in Columbia, MD, Melbourne, FL and Santa Clara, CA.
