JPL Flight Systems Testbed

Pluto Fast Fly-by (PFF) Testbed. Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) has contracted to ICS (October 1994) to establish a flight software testbed control system architecture for the Pluto Fast Flyby mission. The testbed will also be used as an example for future JPL spacecraft. The testbed architecture is based around the Mips R3000 processor and the VxWorks real-time executive. The host workstations are Sun SPARCstations. Eventually, SCL will be ported to a RAD-6000 (rad-hard RS/6000) for the mission. The work performed by ICS has resulted in several copies of SCL being purchased and involvement of the Naval Research Lab's Clementine software lead.

The University of Colorado (CU), Colorado Space Grant Consortium has developed a concept for ground control operations for the Pluto Program. The students at CU have integrated a multi-workstation control center using the SCL system architecture. The Concept of Operations is to have CU students man the control center and task the spacecraft. Surf through the CU web pages to get a glimpse of their work. The students have also developed web pages as a teaching tool for SCL.
