Mission
Operations Control Architecture (MOCA) is an operations concept which
has sprung out of the AIAA Spacecraft Control Working Group (SCWG). ICS
has participated in this technology steering committee for more that 2
years. The MOCA concepts is centered around the SCL architecture. NASA
Code O has funded this effort at GSFC to produce a specification and Concept
of Operations which uses the same control system for Integration &
Test, Operations, and on-board the satellite...this is the SCL concept.
This effort has been well received and has quite a bit of enthusiasm. NASA
is expecting to retrofit the TRMM mission while on orbit. SCL will be integrated
with the flight prototype hardware on the ground over a several month period.
The code will then be uploaded to the TRMM spacecraft on-orbit. The GSFC
Payload Operations Center will also be retrofitted to use SCL as the core
control system. This will act as an on-orbit testbed for MOCA operational
concepts. This effort is currently in the procurement phase.
